Victories

How the Immigration issue might play out.

If the Democrats seek for reasonable immigration reform before the November 2010 elections it would be a no lose situation for them. Pracitally no Democrats would be hurt by this move and more over millions and millions of Hispanic among some Republicans could be changed to vote Democratic. Not to mention that the immigration topic generally unites the Hispanic community to get out and vote. In contrast, environmental legislation has no real influence to the Republican voters. In fact, environmental legislation is not a huge factor for majority in the Democratic party. This includes labor, and Hispanics and African-American groups. It is thought that some Democrats would be outraged by President Obama to compromises on environmental goals and ideals. So to look at this as political move is simple to see that a series of debates on immigration reform would increase Democratic votes. A debate over Environmental legislation does nothing for votes, and might even lose some Democratic supporters which means less votes. So if the Democrats are looking to stay in power, then it really is an easy choice of which bill will get the next attention. Immigration reform should win out, and climate change/energy bill will probably be put on the back burner for now.
