Dream Act still breathing.
With the win in the House on Wednesday regarding the DREAM Act bill, the Senate Democrats made a great move to keep this bill alive and well in the Senate. The Senate was slated for a procedural vote yesterday morning of its own version of the DREAM Act, but with the passage of this bill in the House, the Senate Democrats made a decision to concentrate on using the House bill and ditched theirs, which after they voted on it on Thursday it received a vote of 59-40. Why did they do that? It gives the Senate more time to think over the DREAM Act and get the needed 60 votes. Also, the Senate can vote on the tax cuts, which will allow Republicans to vote for this issue much easier, this should take place in the next several days. Wednesday the DREAM Act won over entrenched party lines and gained more "YEA" votes from House Republicans and quite a few conservative Democrats that were on the fence on this issue. This creates a great atmosphere for a victory for the DREAM Act in the Senate. And for Senators there is a huge responsibility to help pass a historic win for comprehensive immigration reform.
