Victories

What now after the defeat of the DREAM Act.

With the DREAM Act legislation being shot down on the Senate floor last Saturday, it has not defeated the immigration debate. In the political arena, both parties will try to use this recent vote on the Senate floor to their advantage. The Democrats will contend that they are the voice for the down trotted Hispanic/Latino communities. While the Republicans will spew out more rhetoric about how they are the only ones that care about immigration enforcement. Now it will be interesting to see how the Republicans will handle our broken immigration system now that they have took control of the House and now have a more powerful position in the Senate. Their need to win over the Hispanic/Latino communities to have any hope to win complete control of the Senate and possibly the White House in 2012 will be a tricky balance for them. Depending on what side you are on, either Republican or Democrat it is highly unlikely that the GOP will produce any meaningful comprehensive immigration reform these next two years.
