What the DREAM Act is Not.

Probably the biggest myth in regards to the DREAM Act is that it will encourage every undocumented immigrant to come to the United States. This argument seems to be that children that can benefit from the DREAM Act and that are able to receive citizenship will quickly help their parents so that they will be able to gain green cards. Not hardly! First off, anyone that is able to take advantage of the DREAM Act has a mandatory 10 years before they can apply for a green card. Even if everything runs smoothly, the adjustment of status would most likely take a year or two to get and after that is complete they have another mandatory wait of 3 more years for citizenship, which after that the process can take up to a year to receive. That comes up to a total of 15 years before someone can gain their citizenship with a best case scenario. After all this and then and only then can they "file" for a green card for their parents. Now in all reality their parents would have most likely been barred anyways because of reentry bars. If this is the case the parents would have to leave the country and wait 10 years before they can come back into the United States to be able to receive permanent residency. Oh my lord yes I can see how this is such an incentive for people! Get real!

Obtener real!
