Dream Act

The Migration Policy Institute which is a non political organization determined that a little over 2 million undocumented immigrants could be able to apply for legal status using the DREAM Act legislation which is awaiting in Congress. Their findings determined that a little under 300,000 people, which is around 12 percent of possible recipients are located in Texas and California was a disatnt second in the scope of possible people helped by this law. The Institute did throw up a red flag though that the real numbers of undocumented immigrants who would be helped from the bill is much less. The bill which is called the Development, Relief and Education for Alien Minors Act would allow young undocumented immigrants who have remained in school and never had any bouts with the law. But the students would have to meet strict criteria to be eligible. The Institute figures that only a third of those able to recieve the benefit would be able to use the legislation's educational and military routes to legalization. The findings discovered that the number is actually around a little over 800,000 people to get a path to becoming permanent residents.

Dream Act
