Victories

No decision yet on Arizona immigration law.

The first hearing is completed with United States District Judge Susan Bolton. She heard arguments to block Arizona's immigration law that is suppose to go into effect on July 29. Council for both sides argued about if local or the federal government has the authority to enforce immigration issues. The judge did not make any decision on whether to stop the law from taking effect on July 29 yet. This lawsuit is just one out of seven to be heard before the court. The federal government's lawsuit hearing is scheduled for today. Arizona's immigration law demands law enforcement to check someone's immigration status if an officers believes he has a just cause during a routine stop. A lot is on the line here besides if undocumented immigrants have to prove their immigration status to local law enforcement. If Arizona is successful in winning these lawsuits it will unleash a whole can of worms on what states can take over which has been the under the jursidiction of the federal government.
