Victories

DREAM Act legislation gets a vote before years-end.

Senator Harry Reid is keeping his campaign promise to put a vote before the 2010 lame-duck Congress on the DREAM Act immigration bill. This happened just a mere 24 hours after President Obama talked with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. He announced to the group that he is in full agreement with the bill and it is the right thing to do. Sen. Reid who believes that the bill can stand on its own merits has chosen not to attach it to any other bill. As you may recall Democrats tried to attach the DREAM Act legislation on the “Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” repeal bill which was in the National Defense Authorization Act. This will be very interesting to see how the Republicans will vote on the DREAM Act legislation on its own merits. They will have no other excuses of why they voted "No" on this important legislation and further angering the fastest growing future voter base.
