Susana Martinez is soon to be America's first female Hispanic Governor.
Ms. Martinez will take over the reins of Governor Bill Richardson (D), who is close to his two-term limit. She is making history be be sworn in as the first female Hispanic governor in the United States.Martinez has said that she does not agree with a “pathway to citizenship” which was introduced by then President George W. Bush. She believes that undocumented immigrants who are presently in the United States should initially go back to their home countries and then start to apply for legal citizenship. Some of her main campaign promises if elected governor was to overturn laws put in place by past administrations that she says makes New Mexico a magnet to undocumented immigrants and increase border security. Some of her other campaign promises was “to cut spending, lower taxes to create more jobs, end ‘pay-to-play’ practices and other corruption in government and fight to reform education,” time will tell how well she can produce on these promises. Let us all hope we make progress and need go backwards this next four years.
