Whitman appears to go by rule of "Do as I say... Not as I do!"

Meg Whitman (R) is the hopeful for the GOP to takeover Arnold Schwarzenegger as governor of California. A few days ago she stepped on the proverbial landmine for an American politician. Her offense? She hired a housekeeper and employed her for 9 years without having her proper papers for a work status. It should be noted that Whitman has been constantly been calling for harsher penatlies against employers who employee undocumented workers, can you say ironic? Many political careers have been destroyed in recent time over similar allegations, and undocumented immigration is still a firestorm topic right now as Americans get ready to hit the polls for the midterm elections. Nicky Diaz Santillan, the housekeeper told her story that she was employeed by Whitman in 2000 and was fired last year, when she turned to Whitman for help with her immigration status. Ms. Diaz Santillan attorney, Gloria Allred charges that Whitman had been sent a notificaion from the Social Security Administration in April 2003.It informed Whitman that the social security number they received by Diaz Santillan did not coincide with the name on file. Ms. Diaz Santillan attorney has yet to produce a copy of this letter. Diaz Santillan commented that she remembers seeing the letter and that Whitman and her husband never questioned her immigration status after seeing it. Ms. Whitman refutes this allegation. California Latinos make up over 20 percent of it electoral, many of which are new immigrants. Time will tell if this community voices their disapproval over this issue by the way of votes on election day.
