Colbert to testify to Congress about Immigration.
Stephen Colbert, the funny man from Comedy Central will be going in front of Congress tomorrow in regards to immigration. The hearing has been named "Protecting America's Harvest." Also, accompanying Mr. Colbert will be the United Farm Workers (UFW) President Arturo S. Rodriguez. They will be seen by the House Judiciary Committee's Subcommittee on Immigration. Last month, Colbert tried his hand working on a produce farm for a day. Mr. Rodriguez had been on Colbert show earlier in the year promoting UFW's "Take Our Jobs and invited him to try his hand on a farm, Colbert took him up on it and worked on a farm in New York state. The purpose of this was to show that the idea of undocumented immigrants stealing jobs away from United States citizens is ludicrous. It also pointed out the truth, that this country's food supply is sustained by these farm workers. The workers are eager for any American citizens and legal residents who would like to take their place in the fields to step forward and was posted on the UFW website. The UFW went on to proclaim they will help anyone that is unemployed and wants a job they will get them in touch with farmers that are hiring. By all accounts from the UFW, since they have started the campaign over 3 million persons have come to the website www.takeourjobs.org. Out of all those persons visiting under 9,000 people have shown any interest in taking a job. And out of those persons less than 10 have actually accepted employment in the agriculture field. Tomorrow agricultural workers will be trying to persuade congresspersons to pass the AgJOBS bill. This Bill would allow undocumented farm workers that are presently in America the ability to attain legal status by continuing to stay in the agriculture field.
