The twist to ending birthright citizenship.
With rherotic from the GOP about taking away birthright citizenship for babies born to undocumented immigrants thinking that it will lower undocumented immigration, new evidence shows the complete oppsite by the Migration Policy Institute. If giving birthright citizenship to American-born children of undocumented immigrants were stopped, the undocumented population would probably rise greatly. Using accepted models for demographics, the numbers show that if the Birthright Citizenship Act were acted today, the number of undocumented immigrants would increase from over 10 million currently to around 17 million in 2050. Now in 2050, there would be almost 5 million undocumented immigrant children delivered in America, 1 million of those would have two American born parents. The number of undocumented babies born in America would double because of the new Birthright Citizenship Act. The report also goes on to state that the 17 million number was the most conseravtive number for the outcome of the law being changed. If the Birthright Citizenship Act had clauses in it that excluded a child that only had one American citizen parent the number could sky rocket to well over 23 million undocumented immigrants in 2050.This would wreak havoc on generations of family members for years to come.
