South Carolina Gets Immigration Law Put On Hold

With last weeks blockage of key provisions in South Carolina's racist new immigration law with less than two weeks before it was to go on the books officially it is just another sign that this types of laws need them put to rest and hopefully the Supreme Court will do just that very soon. Until then though it was determined by Judge Richard Gergel of the South Carolina circuit that key items of the law which is known as Act 69, is in direct violation of the United States federal immigration laws, because of this Judge Gergel had no option but to strike down parts of this controversial law. This law was suppose to hit the books on January 1, 2012. Some other parts of the new immigration law that were turned down was the section making it against the law to be in South Carolina without proper legal immigration documentation. Another section that was rejected would have permitted local law enforcement to look into anyone's immigration status that they had arrested or detained and that officials thought may have been an undocumented immigrant.
