Victories

Bennett has been warned by Latino group about immigration bill.

State Senator Mike Bennett (Fla-R) has been served notice earlier this week by a Latino organization that although his motives may be in the best interests, he is looked at as a racist for legislation he has introduced to go after undocumented immigrants. Bennett has been quick to point out that his bill does not racially profile, and that by introducing the bill he can control what is in it. Bennett has jumped on the Republican bandwagon on how the federal government is unable to enforce the borders and that state legislators believe the need to step in. Bennett's legislation requires that when someone has been stopped by a law enforcement  officer, they may ask for proof of citizenship if the officer has a "reasonable suspicion" is not in the United States lawfully. The legislation say's law enforcement can not use a person's nationality, color or race as a means to determine "reasonable suspicion." It is obviously that this bill is motivated by the controversial Arizona immigration law, which is currently in the courts by the United States Department of Justice. Regardless of what verbiage the bills has in it police officers will take in to count people's accents and skin color when checking into someone legal status. This bill totally  goes after Mexicans and discriminates against them. It appears legislators just want to target Mexicans and could careless about other undocumented immigrants who may have entered the country legally at first but then over stay their visas. Many believe that the economic downfall could be huge and could lose a lot of business from Latin American tourists if this bill passes.
