Latest copy cat AZ Immigration Law.

With Alabama's Governor Robert Bentley (R) signing into law last week of what he called one of the toughest "illegal" immigration laws in the country, he is rather smug with himself I have no doubt. One of the main provisions he is rather proud of I am sure, is that he has mandated that public schools look into students' immigration standing. He has also made it a criminal offense if you have knowledge that someone is undocumented and give them transportation in a vehicle. Also, law enforcement officers are permitted to detain or arrest people if during a stop they are believed to be undocumented immigrants. Alabama businesses are now required to use the E-Verify system which is a federal program to verify if a potential employee is a citizen. Such organizations as the American Civil Liberties Union and the Montgomery-based Southern Poverty Law Center have already stated they will fight this law. The Governor, who ran on the promise of getting one of the severest anti-illegal immigration bills pushed through, has accomplished his task. He has commented that he see's no issues with his bill standing up in court. Obliviously he has not been keeping up with all the decisions the federal courts have been deciding on these types of laws. Bentley, seems to be playing politics just like many other Republican politicians to win votes and elections but the real losers are the citizens of these state who use up the states money on lawsuits they will never win.
