Senate discusses DREAM Act Again.

The Senate held hearings on the DREAM Act yesterday with many undocumented students in attendance. Many top public officials were present to give testimony in support of the DREAM Act some of them included Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan, Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, and experts from the Department of Defense, military, and many non political groups. Illinois Senator Dick Durbin, who has been a DREAM Act proponent for sometime now, chaired the Senate Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security hearing. He believes that in the DREAM Act got passed it would held around 2 million people to be eligible for citizenship. The bill is designed to help youths that are currently undocumented immigrants but who have resided in America for at least five years. They would of had to graduated from high school and are considered of "good moral character" to be able to pursue a path to citizenship by either continuing their schooling in college or serving in the Armed forces. Also, after such persons qualified to this point they would have to undertake a 7 year process in regards to background checks and other conditions. Senator John Cornyn (TX-R) the ranking minority member of the Subcommittee tried to battering Napolitano on any general immigration issues or issues that may show up down the road. As you may recall Senator Durbin (D) re-introduced this bill last month and it has 34 co-sponsors so far.
