Obama Granting an Extension to Haitians’.

Yesterday, the Obama administration announced that Haitians who were granted a special American immigration status after their country was devastated by an earthquake in 2010 are going to be permitted another 18 months to reside and continue to work in the United States. This action is taken to help this community while their country is still struggling to get back on their feet. The Secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, put out a press release stating that for humanitarian reasons the state of the country is still unsafe for the Haitian immigrants to be sent back to their country right now. Pro-Immigrant groups called for the administration to help get the extension for the Haitian community. Some where even calling for all deportations be be stopped until their country got back on its feet more but most who had lobbied for the extension approved of the action the Obama administration took in regards to this matter. It should also be known that no extensions will be allowed to anyone who has been convicted of a felony or 2 misdemeanors.
