ICE Reports An All Time Record For Deportations.

With the fiscal year 2011 just ending the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency (ICE) announced yesterday that they came close to deporting 400,000 individuals in 2011. It is by far the greatest number of individuals deported in a single year from the agency. Over half of the deportations were related to felony or misdemeanor convictions of individuals. It should be noted that people who have been convicted of a crime has risen nearly 90 percent from 2008. Also, the agency did not say how many of the individuals with felony convictions had outstanding immigration violations. A person can be convicted of a felony for returning to the United States after they have been ordered out of the country. The director of ICE, John Morton commented that he is hopeful for comprehensive immigration reform from the federal government but until that day comes we will enforce the laws that are on the books now.
