Lawsuit Filed In Alabama For Residents Right To Marry Despite Of Their Immigration Status.

Yesterday, the Southern Poverty Law Center has filed a lawsuit where they are looking to confront standing policies that make non-citizens have to show proof of their legal immigration status before marrying. The Southern Poverty Law Center announced that the suit is taking on policies that make immigrants have to produce a visa, green card or other immigration document. Also, the suit is going after policies that make anyone who is getting an application for a marriage license to also bring a Social Security card. The Southern Poverty Law Center contends no one should have to show their papers to get married. The lawsuit contends that federal law or the state's new Alabama immigration law does not require this but it is being enforced in nearly all of its counties.
