Part 2...Knocking Down Myths About Immigration.

Professor Chavez wanted to look into issues United States citizens have regarding their anti-immigrant views and the rising anger against Hispanic and Latino immigrants using public services. Professor Chavez’s findings can not be ignored because his study which was done in Orange County where the Latino undocumented immigrant population is high (almost 34% in regards to the overall population). Chavez wanted to find answers to whether an undocumented immigration status would show if medical services will be used. His study found important information using a random telephone survey in Orange County. What it showed was that someone's undocumented immigration status is a huge predictor that they will NOT use medical services. Chavez's study brought startling facts out to the open. One such fact was that legal immigrants and United State citizens were over 70% more likely to seek medical help than undocumented Latinos. These facts are 180 degrees out of phase from the general public misconceptions and the rhetoric produced by anti-immigration groups on this subject.
