Deportation For Undocumented Immigrant Who Helped Police Solve Murder

Well it appears the reward for doing the right thing and I dare say a heroic deed for undocumented immigrants who help police to solve crimes is turning our backs on them and threaten them with deportation. Many stories have been in the news recently about undocumented immigrants helping police or doing heroic acts. One such hero was Antonio Diaz Chacon, in our own state of New Mexico and an undocumented immigrant who chased down an alleged child molester after he had snatched a little girl and probably saved her from certain harm if not even death. Now the latest story involves a high-profile murder case which an undocumented immigrant came forward with key information that helped solve the case and what was his reward? In a word "Deportation". Charbel Chehoud is now behind bars and could be deported back to Lebanon as early as today. Mr. Chaoud, who is from Lebanon is afraid for his life if he would be sent back to his country. He has good reason to be, back in July of last year his brother was killed under suspicious circumstances from an auto-pedestrian accident in Beirut. Federal immigration authorities so far have ignored recommendations by the New Jersey law enforcement agency and prosecutors that he should be permitted to remain in the United States and people wonder what is wrong with our immigration system, well this is one of the many problems that is wrong with it.
