GOP Looking To Sway Hispanic and Latino Voters

With the general election just around the corner, the Republican Party is trying to do damage control with the Hispanic and Latino voters. One way they are trying to do this is put their token Hispanic minority stars out on the campaign trail. Even with all the damaging anti-immigration rhetoric that their own party is producing in the Republican presidential primary, you can just feel the anti-Hispanic and Latino hate just oozing out of them. Most Pro-immigration groups and leading political analysis's believe the damage has already been done and is not fixable in crucial states like New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Florida this election year. Most Republicans believe Mitt Romney will be their nominee, but predict he won't even get 8% of the Hispanic/Latino vote after his comments about if he were president he would veto any legislation that would grant citizenship to undocumented immigrants, calling it a handout. Yes, the very same DREAM Act legislation that would permit "some" young undocumented immigrants who were brought here as children through no fault of their own to earn legal status if they went to college or who served in the armed forces. The rhetoric has been so bad in the Republican primaries that even our own Governor Susana Martinez, a Republican, has told the candidates to "watch their tongues". Some are speculating that the eventual Republican nominee will not do much better than McCain did in his dismal defeat just four short years ago. Some even are predicting it may be far worse if the Republican candidates don't tone down their own rhetoric about immigration.
