Recent Finding Shows Majority Of States Against Arizona Type Immigration Law

2011 may go down as the year of anti-immigration legislation but in reality most states that considered immigration bills like Arizona’s SB 1070 dismissed them handily in 2011. This is a real shining light to the resolve of the people to denounce these types of bigoted and racists immigration laws. The National Council of La Raza, recently released its findings in a report which showed that 31 of 36 state legislatures either flat out shot down or did not help move forward a SB 1070–style bills in 2011. It would indicate that most states were saying that Anti-Immigration Legislation in 2011 was not the correct way to solve our broken immigration system. This was very evident from the scrutiny Arizona felt from the onslaught of Pro-immigration right groups about their state’s 2010 passage of SB 1070, not to mention the federal courts as well. Arizona's and other such states that passed similar racist and bigoted immigration laws would permit local law enforcement officers' to check anyone's immigration status if they "suspected" them as "illegal", among other draconian measures. Politicians on both sides of the aisle are now seeing the negative ramifications of passing such laws. Let us all hope we can move forward for real comprehensive immigration reform, which is much needed in this country.
