Sheriff Joe Arpaio's Looking to Appeal Profiling Case

Last week Arizona's Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio who is better known by his self titled name as the "toughest illegal immigration sherriff" in the United States. Well he is back in the courts once again. For a change though he has not been summoned to appear before the court for his illegal tactics in regards to immigration violations. No this time he is trying to appeal a federal judge's decision that has stopped his deputies from detaining people solely based on the suspicion that they are in the United States illegally. Arpaio's attorneys announced to United States District Judge Murray Snow in their filing that they are planning to appeal the judge's December 23 decision. In that lawsuit it was alleged that the sheriff's deputies racially profiled Hispanics in immigration patrols. The attorneys who handled the lawsuit and who represented 5 Latino clients also won a class-action status that now allows other Hispanics to participate in the lawsuit. The one stipulation to joining the lawsuit is that they have to have been questioned or detained by Arpaio's deputies as either the driver of the vehicle or the passenger going back as far as January 2007.
