Arpaio Denies Racially Profiling Undocumented Immigrants

Long time Arizona sheriff Joe Arpaio and self-proclaimed "America's toughest sheriff," denied earlier in the week that his officers went after people because of their skin color during their controversial raids on undocumented immigrants. Arpaio, testified in a class-action lawsuit that will surely determine if law enforcement officers can effectively go after undocumented immigrants without racially profiling Hispanic and Latino citizens among other legal residents. Stanley Young, who is the representing counsel for the plaintiffs' used previous public statements against Arpaio to show a clear past history of racism against Mexicans. Young used a statement that Arpaio used at the time of a swine flu outbreak in Mexico. In that statement Arpaio said that he had some illegal immigrants detained and they were from an area south of Mexico City where he said the flu had killed more than 150 people. Young then asked Arpaio "You were associating people from Mexico with disease, is that right?" to which Arpaio replied "No." Arpaio said that he was "concerned" that the detainees "were not coming through checkpoints" on the border. Next Young put into evidence letters from Maricopa County residents asking Arpaio to conduct immigration raids. One such letter was from a woman complaining of people speaking in Spanish at a Sun City McDonald's restaurant. The court also was shown evidence of how Arpaio instructed his assistant to write a thank you letter to the woman, and then Arpaio sent the email on to an officer in charge of an upcoming immigration raid in that area. Young asked: "Speaking Spanish isn't a crime is it?" Arpaio replied: "No it isn't." Asked if he told the woman who complained of them speaking Spanish that it was no crime, he said he did not. And yet another resident wrote to a local newspaper injecting that law enforcement "should be looking for Mexicans ... Profiling is .... a valuable tool for law enforcement." The letter was out on display by Arpaio's office and Arpaio tried to down play the clipping by saying, "but it doesn't mean that I agree with it." The trial is slated to go until August 2 before Judge Murray Snow.

Hello, I felt compelled to send a letter in the mail and share my experience with Kretz & Romero for anyone looking for a good immigration law firm. I found Kretz & Romero strictly by the internet, when I did a Google search for an immigration attorney in the Roswell area. I was rather impressed by their dominance in the search engines and I was compelled to give them a call especially after reading their testimonial section of their website. I have only been a client of theirs since March of 2011 but have already seen great results after they processed my filing so rapidly. I had heard that the attorneys at Kretz and Romero were great on numerous occasions. I was in need of getting my green card and after talking to family and friends they had also mentioned that they thought I should go see Kretz & Romero to help me to get my green card. Then I saw them on TV and decided to give them a call. After talking to one of the attorneys I felt very comfortable hiring them to help me get my green card. All the staff at Kretz and Romero are very nice and they always answer the phone and answered all my questions. I now have my green card so I'm able to work now. I have been a client of Kretz & Romero Law P.C. for about four months. My husband got picked up by ICE in September 2012. I didn't want him to get deported because he had been deported before. I think I called about every immigration attorney I could possibly call and they all told me that they could not help me. Several people told me to call Kretz & Romero.
