Supreme Court Pushes Immigration Reform On Congress Plate

With the Supreme Court stricking down three out of four key provisions of Arizona's immigration law this Monday it has now basically handed over the issue of comprehensive immigration reform to Congress. Unfortunately this being an election season it is highly unlikely that anything will get accomplished with Congress on this issue. And yet even with the Supreme Court striking down three of the four key provisions of Arizona's immigration law, people are under the misconception that the court upheld one of the most controversial pieces of the bill, this could be nothing farther from the truth. The statute that I am speaking about is the one that allows law enforcement officers to ask someone's about their immigration status if the officer suspect he or she is an undocumented immigrant during a routine stop. For starters the Supreme Court was only looking at if Arizona's immigration law overstepped its authority in regards to federal immigration laws. The court shot down three of the four provisions in Arizona's immigration law and rightfully so. The last one was not really covered in the scope that the court was looking at Arizona's immigration law is unconstitutional. It is only a matter of time before the last part of Arizona's immigration law will be asked to to be repeal by the Supreme Court on the basis of racial profile.
