Six Arrested At Sherriff Joe Arpaio Protest

Local law enforcement in Phoenix arrested six demonstrators which included two minors. A rally was organized by students in protest of Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s immigration policies. The rally was comprised of students from Trevor Browne High School among numerous other local high schools and colleges. The rally which was held on Tuesday in the intersection of 75th Avenue and Cheery Lynn Street, had police close down 75th Avenue in both directions. When asked what the rally was all about Jackie Sanchez, a 16-year-old student summed it up perfectly "Arpaio is terrorizing our community and we're tired of it," she went on to say that, "The only power he [Arpaio] has is fear. That's over." The rally which lasted four hours had protesters chanting “undocumented and unafraid” with slogans in support of the DREAM Act. The Phoenix law enforcement agency said that the rally was illegal because protestors blocked the road. A spokesperson for the Phoenix police said the demonstrators were not physically aggressive. Bravo to all the supporters at this rally for standing up for what you believe in.
