| Military assists in Accelerated Naturalization for Legal Immigrants. |

Over Ten-thousand military servicemen and women became United States citizens last year through a project that gives naturalization to qualified people in the military. This number shows the largest number since the Vietnam War. Usually, the naturalization procedure takes a number of years; nevertheless the United States government gives an accelerated method for men and women in the services that have green cards. Nearly Eleven-thousand men and women were granted their naturalization in the United States during 2009, which stops on September 30. Hispanic leaders know that the correct count on the national scene is important to getting correct representation in the government. Churches are encouraging their parishioners to participate in the Census next year. They feel that their community members are being undercounted. This leads to not getting represented in Congress that should be given to them. The Census numbers are used to determine where the billions of dollars in federal funds goes to throughout the country. In the same instance ethnic minorities are typically apprehensive of government Census. Church leaders are trying to negate this suspicion with a united push to get their parishoners to take part in the Census. It is an ingenious way to get the community to complete the Census surveys because religion is the foundation of many Latino communities.

| The misguided beliefs some people have with Illegal Immigrants. |

One of the most common reasons people have against illegal immigrants is that they feel they are all criminals because they broke the laws that dictates who may come into the United States. Therefore, these types of immigrants are "criminals" and we do not want those kind of people in "OUR" country! Such condemnation discombobulates what is legal with what is moral. The history of the United States is crammed with people who disobeyed unjust laws and were morally justified in doing so. Take for example the American Revolution, it was fought by brave patroits (men and women) who violated Englands laws of King George III. If they were caught the punishment would have been death by hanging for treason. So if commiting a crime makes you a criminal all our Founding Fathers are criminals, which makes us a nation of criminals. But, alas no one believes this misguided belief today. Take another example of Dred Scott a runaway slave. He violated the "Fugitive Slave Act" by running away from the Southern slave masters in the beginning to mid 1800's. Slaves that were found were given back to their masters and even people found helping or harboring slaves were prosecuted. Now many people that were tried had their case nullified by juries declaring the law was unjust. Juries usually rejected prosecuting anyone having dealings with the "Underground Railroad". I doubt the majority of Americans today would call a runaway slave a "criminal". And in the 1930's the SS St. Louis which carried hundreds of Jews to the U.S. were coercively refused under the pretense of immigration quotas, the majority of them were murdered in Hitler's concentration camps. But what if these immigrants violated U.S. law and entered our country illegally. Would we still call them "criminals"? I would hope not!

Así que si la comisión de un delito convierte en criminal a todos nuestros Padres Fundadores son criminales, que nos hace una nación de criminales. Pero, por desgracia nadie cree que esta creencia errónea de hoy. Tomemos otro ejemplo de Dred Scott un esclavo fugitivo. Se violó la "Ley de Esclavos Fugitivos" por huir de los amos esclavistas del Sur, en el inicio y mediados de 1800. Los esclavos que se encontraron fueron devueltos a sus dueños e incluso las personas encuentran ayuda o protección a los esclavos fueron procesados. Ahora muchas personas que habían tratado su caso anulado por los jurados que se declara la ley era injusta. Los jurados suelen rechazar enjuiciar a cualquier persona que tiene tratos con el "Underground Railroad". | As Health Care Reform closes (CIR) just starting? |

There appears to be some doubt if Congress is going to tackle immigration reform the beginning of next year right after a hard fought health care debate. But if Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.), has any say in it he wants action now. Rep Gutierrez is the active conductor of a multi-ethnic coalition of immigration reform advocates and is gearing up so when Health Care Reform is completed, they can start quickly on Immigration Reform. Some have said that the economy will hold back this bill, but there is never a right or wrong time for this moral issue. President Obama on numerous occasions said he wants to tackle Immigration Reform when the health care debate is over and Congress completes issues on energy reforms and regulating financial markets, this could drive Immigration Reform closer to the midterm elections in November. President Obama’s pledge was greeted well by segments of the Hispanic and Christian communities, Obama still has not set a timeline for rebuilding our broken immigration system. The recently revealed legislation, backed by over 80 House Democrats to date, is at the apex of months of debates with community organizations, unions and other groups throughout the U.S. in anticipate of acquiring enough impetus to get Immigration Reform enacted.

| President Obama picks Hispanics for top posts. |

President Obama is on record pace to appoint additional Hispanics to high postions than any other presidents. He has named people from a wide field of countries in the Latino communities, from South American countries. This does not automatically help the president on issues as immigration, but it may alleviate Hispanic concerns about if the president will sustain helping the group that was instrumental to his victory to the White House. While Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor is hands down the presidents most noticable Hispanic appointee. With less than 12 months in office, the Obama administration has also named almost 50 other Hispanics to top positions that necessitates Senate confirmation. To date, thirty-five have been approved. In comparison Clinton had 30 affirmed and the second Bush had 34 after their first twenty months in office. Around 1/2 of the presidents choices are of Mexican and Spanish decent from the Southwest. Which it should not be a surprise that almost 2/3 of Hispanics in the United States recognize themselves as Mexican-American. But some other Latino nationalities represented are from South America and the Caribbean.

A number of reports produced in the the first part of the year from Immigration Policy Center deterimined the following. Immigrants "some of which are undocumented" and unemployed natives generally have different degrees of education, reside in other areas of the country, have dissimilar work experiences and amount of work experience. These people can not be easily interchanged from one person to the next. Another way to look at this is it is hard to persued laid-off business men in Washington, D.C. to become construction labors in California. This just is not a practical solution for bringing down the unemployment rate or helping growth in the economy in the long haul. Furthermore, unauthorized immigrants "workers" are also buyers who help sustain many U.S. companies through buying goods they make with their hard-earned salary. The idea of trying to deport 12 million unauthorized workers and consumers would be disaterous to the U.S. economy, not rectify it. The Perryman Group did a report in April of 2008. It estimates that even removing all 12 million unauthorized immigrants from the U.S. would cause a loss of around 3 million jobs and a reduction in the gross domestic product of around $250 billion. It does not take a rocket scientist to know this would be a disaster for economic recovery. No one argues that some native-born workers are in competion with some unauthorized immigrants for the same position but this is the exception not the rule. A lot of companies, both huge and tiny, rely on undocumented immigrants and their spending power that they yeild. Immigrants (legal or undocumented) did not create the current economic downturn, and trying to blame them for it while not get us get us out of it..

The start of immigration reform rallies appears to have begun. Pro immigration advocates are encouraging everyone to call legislators and the White House to push for a new bill that would give undocumented immigrants anavenue to legal status. The awareness was highlighted on International Day of the Migrant. This day is a day to recognize migration all over the globe. This was just one in a total of 10 rallies going on all around Colorado on Friday to promote their approval of an immigration reform bill which would provide a avenue to legal residency to help bring together families torn apart by the border. This is the time for us to be coordinated and unified said Veronica Felix, a Roaring Fork Valley organizer with Congregations and Schools Empowered, which helped sponsor the event. It is time for us to have a Merry Christmas with all our family. Organizers are behind a bill introduced to the House on Tuesday by Rep. Luis Guiterrez, D-Ill. Rep. Luis Guiterrez, bill has secured 70 co-sponsors, including Colorado Reps. John Salazar. This comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) bill is greatly needed to revamp our disfunctional immigration system. This bill has realistic fixes that will drive our immigration system in the direction of a humane passage that will help grow our economy, safeguard children and families, and insure effective enforcement.

Richard Berry made campaign promises to stop what he called Albuquerque's "sanctuary city" policy for undocumented immigrants that has commit crimes. But since his successful bid for Albuquerque mayor, it's not certain when the policy will be implimented, because there is a 2007 legal settlement. Berry said he sees on reason to change his plan for the change and believes there are better solutions out there. The Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund (MALDEF) was a piece of the lawsuit against the city and individuals from the handling of high school students held for immigration questioning in 2007. Berry thinks the Bernalillo County sheriff's procedure is a better procedure. This procedure points out that deputies are not allowed to stop and question someone just on the premise that they think the person is a deportable immigrant. But if the law enforcement officer arrests a person for a criminal offense of state or county law, and if they have suspicion that the person is an undocumented immigrant they should report it to their supervisor. Berry believes this gives law enforcement a little more latitude. Whatever happens, coming up with a new policy must be managed delicately, and to make sure witnesses and victims of crimes know they won't be deported "This is not an immigration issue," Berry said. "This is a public safety issue." But the executive director of immigration rights group El Centro de Igualdad y Derechos, Rachel LaZar says that this issue has instilled a lot of aprehension in the immigrant community, which is now scared to go to the police if they are a vitim of a crime or witness a crime. Ms. LaZar believes that the Martin Chavez policy worked well because law enforcement had a means to check and deport illegals that had been arrested. Time will tell to see what the Berry administration settles on this issue but it could be a wild fire issue for the Berry administration.

Most Americans have no clue that 2/3 of undocumented immigrants pay into Medicare, Social Security and personal income taxes. But people and politicians not educated on the topic are unaware of this fact. The misinformation produced by the right wing that undocumented immigrants are a huge burden on the country's hospitals, schools and welfare programs consuming services that they don't pay for. The facts are that the 1996 welfare reform bill excludes undocumented immigrants from almost every government programs. The only programs that they can get are emergency medical services and education K-12. Next, undocumented immigrants who are not self-employed have Social Security and Medicare taxes automatically taken out of their paychecks. Since undocumented immigrants have only false identification, they can never recieve the services these taxes are meant for. Last year, the monies from these false ID's that the Social Security administration stores in the earnings suspense file reaches up to 10 percent of the Social Security surplus. This fund is increasing, typically, by more than fifty billion a year. Immigrants do not come to the United States to get a free ride from the United States. In a study by the Urban Institute, the 1996 welfare reform shows that it did its job by reducing the use of welfare by undocumented immigrants as it was put in place to do. Another important little unknown event to probably the majority of Americans happened in 1996. The IRS began giving out ID numbers so that undocumented immigrants not having a Social Security number could file their taxes. But past federal taxes, undocumented immigrants pay taxes automatically through sales taxes and property taxes which contributes to roads schools etc. the surplus on these taxes is around $80,000 typically according to a neutral party the National Research Council. The facts are that undocumented immigrants aren't stealing from the government it is quite the reverse, is it no wonder why some people would want to keep it this way?

With Representative Luis Gutierrez (D-Ill.) and over twenty House Dems of the same mind announced their new legislation yesterday for immigration reform. With this bill millions of undocumented immigrants could become legalized citizens. Representative Luis Gutierrez said yesterday that the time for solution is now to fix our immigration crisis and that Congress and this President to take action now said Gutierrez. "This bill will be presented before Congress recesses for the holidays so that there is no excuse for inaction in the New Year.” A new approach to this bill has the unconditional backing from a number of backers this time, from Black, Hispanic, Asian and other progressive Congressional caucuses. This bill proposes that undocumented immigrants have the lawfully register with the government, at which time they would pay a five hundred dollar fine per adult, pass security inspection and learn English. They then and only then would be allowed a 6 year visa and then ultimately a green card. Representative Joseph Crowley (D-N.Y.) also pointed out that Border security is of great importance to everyone but we need to know who is in the country and get people out of the shadows. President Barack Obama has stated as recently in August that he has no doubt that CIR will pass legislation in Congress. It appears that a CIR bill will be brought to the Senate in early 2010 by Senators Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Graham (R-S.C.).

In a recent meeting the Senate Judiciary Committee held an oversight hearing with Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano. Ms.Napolitano beginning remarks restated her stance that immigration enforcement is a necessity, but that enforcement by its self is not a solution for our broken immigration system. The Secretary of Homeland Security noted, "We can no longer perpetuate a status quo that is unacceptable for workers, employers, law enforcement, faith leaders, and America as a whole. We must seize this moment to build a truly effective immigration system that deters illegal immigration, provides effective and enduring enforcement tools, protects workers from exploitation and retaliation, and creates a tough but fair path to legalization for the millions of illegal immigrants already here." Although Ms. Napolitano is committed to both enforcement and legalization as a component of comphrensive immigration reform, it appears some lawmakers are not so sure and want to keep the status quo in enforcement only policy to undocumented immigrants that has been a total blunder for over 20 years. In the fairy tale view of enforcement-only advocates, forcing nearly 12 million unauthorized men, women, and children out of the country to be practical, but would somehow benefit the U.S. economy. In fact, through a passionate idea of enforcement-only policy to unauthorized immigration would be enormously expensive and would take away productive workers, consumers, and taxpayers out of the economy in the middle of a recession. One study, estimates that eliminating all illegal immigrants out of the country would produce a loss of nearly 3 million jobs and a decline in the Gross Domestic Product of nearly $250 billion. That is not exactly a good idea for economic recovery. Ms. Napolitano and the Obama administration is not looking back but forward instead of the same old ideas on immigration. Furthermore comprehensive reform is a practical and humane way of handling the large unauthorized population in the United States, but it would assist the economy as well. Rather than blaming immigrants for our current economic problems, we should realize their economic contributions and their potential to contribute to the rebuild of our economy. The time is now to fix our broken immigration system.

Immigration advocates have anticipated Comprehensive Immigration Reform for the United States and are yearning for President Obama's to make good on his word about making immigration refrom his top priority after Health Care Reform. With a number of resources being put in place before Congress in the upcoming year, advocates are very apprehensive that there has not been much to celebrate in past years. The last significant drive was in 2007 when the failed Bush administration was unable to pass legislation for the then estimated 12 million undocumented immigrants. A House bill, sponsored by U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, D-Ill., is anticipated sometime this month, and another Senate bill is expected sometime in January. Inquiries on Obama's promise to undertake the issue when he saw activists at the White House earlier this year, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano said in November that the Obama administration visualizes a "three-legged stool" that has a more robust border enforcement, more effective legal Immigration and "a tough but fair" passageway to legalization that will entail the undocumented to attain the English language and make compensation in the way of fines, among other things. Congress is looking at debating the immigration issue early next year.

Presently a citizen has to be born on U.S. soil to put his hat in the ring for the highest office in the country. This is not necessary for all government postions such as Austrian-born Arold Schwarzenegger, Govenor of California. Does this article in the Constitution still make sense in todays world? Whenever people talk about amending the Constitution, they rial up a bunch of emotions. The whole U. S. legal system is founded on this document that was approved by our founding fathers. The more we change it, the more we are basically saying that our founding fathers didn't get it exactly correct. The Constitution was adopted in 1787 and has hardly been changed ever since. The country is significantly bigger is size and the culture, racial and ethnic make up has completely changed. Also, how we move around the world in this fast paced enviroment has dramatically changed, the world has never been smaller. Military children born abroad can not run for President. Even a U.S. child born to U.S. citizens traveling abroad and then brought up to live in the U.S. for their entire life would not be able to run for the highest office. But an illegal border crosser giving birth to a child on U.S., that baby can become President. You can see the many different fasets to this issue and I am sure we will hear more of it in the future.

Of course secure borders with a sound policy for allowing new immigrants into the U.S. is as imperative today as it was when President George W. Bush tried to revamp the failing immigration system. This was defeated in 2007 mainly due to the myth that immigration is a leech on the economy and a menace to native-born workers. This could not be farther from the truth. The facts are well reported from the Fiscal Policy Institute, immigration has been an essential influence in the economy. Even in rough times, immigrants augment or renew the labor pool and implant entrepreneurial energy that creates new businesses and jobs. Taking the Census Bureau information, 25 major cities were looked at from Los Angeles to New York to Miami to Seattle, and over and over again shows that immigrants more than carry their own weight. The report points out that immigrants are more likely to be of working age which by definition is 16 to 64 then their United States born citizens. While immigrants are only 20 percent of the population in the 25 huge cities, they are 24 percent of the labor force and they work, in high level positions and low-paying jobs and everything in between. Besides that, the income generated by immigrants who have their own businesses was 22 percent. In some smaller cities like Pittsburgh and Cleveland, immigrants income was twice of their proportion in the population. This shows that the bigger the immigrant population the larger the economic activity. The opposite is also true. Closing the borders and trying to throw out the people that actually have created productive lives here would devistated the United States. The U.S. has to maintain a healthy immigration policy for it is truely essential for our economy. Fixing our failing immigration system will be beneficial for all Americans.

| What does Comprehensive Immigration Reform (CIR) mean? |

You may have heard the term "immigration reform" and wondered what does it mean? People that discuss immigration reform are talking about changing the current immigration laws the are presently on the books. These laws fall under the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). So when people talk about wanting immigration reform they are really wanting to ammend the Immigration and Nationality Act . (CIR) would benefit the nearly 12 million undocumented immigrants within in the U.S. to a path toward citizenship while at the sametime placing laws on the books to restrain illegal immigrants down the line. These tactics usually have added border security and hiring sanctions against employers for hiring illegal aliens. While the majority of conservatives have no issues with immigrants, there seems to be a huge difference of opinion when dealing with illegal aliens. Liberals sees themselves as helping immigrants come out of obscurity in the U.S. While President Obamas new adminstration brought new faith for immigrants that desperately seek (CIR) we can only hope Health Care Reform happens by the end of this year so (CIR) debates can start in early of 2010.

Servicemen and women who have served their country with distinction are now being held in immigration detention centers in the U.S. These servicemen and women are legal residents of this country by deporting them to their native country. How utterly ironic it is, think for a second, how many people that were involved in organized crime of the 1920's and 30's. How many veterans of WWI and WWII faced deportation back to Italy because they were convicted of a drug related crime? Justice certainly does not seem blind when it comes to immigrant servicemen and women. When American servicemen who were involved with the inhumane slaughter of 24 men, women and children civilians in Haditha, Iraq in November of 2005. These servicemen (and I use the term loosely) eluded justice for their crimes while noncitizen miltary personnel, with the majority having a legal immigrantion status, are being deported for misdemeanor drug offense. It seems very obvious this is not about a drug offense but a policy against immigrants that recruiters could really care less about who they fill their quotes when sending men and women off to war to serve this great country. With the need to fill positions in the armed services in combat areas, the military "falsely promised automatic U.S. citizenship," in exchange for service which comprised of deployment to Iraq or Afghanistan. All too frequently, the immigrant service personnel is double crossed and, after his or her return to the Untied States of America, they are rounded up, and sent back to their native country.

Traiciones inmigrantes Veterinarios Hombres y mujeres que han servido a su país con distinción ahora están detenidos en centros de detención de inmigración en los EE.UU. Estos hombres y mujeres sean residentes legales de este país por la deportación a su país natal. ¿Cómo totalmente paradójico que sea, pensar por un segundo, ¿cuántas personas que participaron en el crimen organizado de la década de 1920 y 30. ¿Cuántos veteranos de la Primera Guerra Mundial y la Segunda Guerra Mundial se enfrentan la deportación a Italia debido a que fueron condenados por un delito relacionado con las drogas? Justicia ciertamente no parece ciegos cuando se trata de los militares y las mujeres inmigrantes. Cuando los soldados estadounidenses que participaron en la masacre inhumana de 24 hombres, mujeres y niños civiles en Haditha, Iraq, en noviembre de 2005. Estos hombres (y uso el término vagamente) eludido la justicia por sus crímenes, mientras que el personal militar que no es ciudadano, y la mayoría tiene un estatuto jurídico immigrantion, están siendo deportados por delito menor de drogas. | Salvation Army changes its Scrooge policy. |

Maybe you have seen the recent uproar about the Salvation Army making kids show their Social Security card to recieve a free toy. I must have forgotten the section in the Bible where Christ informs his disciple to inspect people's immigration status before giving them charity! It appears this organization has been made to see the light on charity and has reversed its "Scrooge-like" policy. Major Chris Flanagan, head of the Houston Salvation Army made a statement saying "It was never our intention to offend anyone with our registration requirement to provide a Social Security number, or to give the impression that we were discriminating against those individuals and families who do not have a Social Security number." It's obvious that the public opinion and indignation over the discriminating policy had a huge factor on their change of heart. It appears people are making a stand on fair treatment of immigrants in the U.S. and where you are CNN or The Salvation Army anti-immigration discrimination is not going to be tolerated. Maybe we are getting a little closer to "Peace on earth and goodwill towards man".

Ejército de Salvación cambios su política de Scrooge. Tal vez usted ha visto el reciente escándalo sobre el Ejército de Salvación toma de muestra a los niños de su tarjeta de Seguro Social para recibir un juguete. Debo haber olvidado la sección de la Biblia donde Cristo le informa a su discípulo para inspeccionar el estado migratorio de las personas antes de darles la caridad! Al parecer, esta organización se ha hecho ver la luz de la caridad y ha invertido su "Scrooge-como" la política. El mayor Chris Flanagan, jefe del Ejército de Salvación en Houston hizo una declaración diciendo: "Nunca fue nuestra intención ofender a nadie con nuestra obligación de registro para proporcionar un número de Seguro Social, o dar la impresión de que nos discriminan contra las personas y familias que no no tiene un número de Seguro Social ". Es obvio que la opinión pública y la indignación por la política discriminatoria había un gran factor en su cambio de corazón. Al parecer, la gente está tomando una posición sobre el trato justo de los inmigrantes en los EE.UU. y donde está la CNN o la lucha contra el Ejército de Salvación discriminación de inmigración no va a ser tolerado. | Injunction of Transitional Worker Rule allowed in Court. |

The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) recommended that the District Court for Washington D.C. agree to a preliminary injunction preventing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) from executing the Transitional Worker Classification interim final rule. Because of this, the Department of Homeland Security will not carry out the transitional worker rule at the present time. Also, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services will not take any Petitions for a Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI) transitional worker until further consideration is taken and decided upon. This injunction does not alter any bearing on the Consolidated Natural Resources Act (CNRA) application of Federal immigration laws besides the transitional worker nonimmigrant category.

With illegal immigrants leaving the U.S. for the lack of jobs that they hoped would be here because of the failing economy. This is the ideal time to evaluate the United States failing immigration system. The first order of business for immigration reform has to be a way to control our borders, if this is not accomplished reform is impossible. Secondly there has to be a system in place to entice immigrants who want to migrate to the United States to do so legally. If immigrants can not get an entry permit in all likelihood they will just enter the country illegally. There has to be a system in place for immigrants that want to play by the rules that they can come and go as needed. Thirdly there has to be a reason for the illeagal immigrants already here to go back to there home country and then able to return legally. You can not expect immigrants to accept huge penalties or threatening them by banning them for life from the United States, they will only go back underground in this country. Fourth there has to be a workable E-Verify system that all employers have an incentive to use the system and that way the government can go after employers exploiting the law and hiring illegals immigrants. We can only hope the Obama administration and the GOP can come together to solve these issues for the betterment of the country.

Con los inmigrantes ilegales que salen los EE.UU. por la falta de puestos de trabajo que se espera que sea aquí, porque de la economía en crisis. Este es el momento ideal para evaluar los Estados Unidos en su defecto sistema de inmigración. La primera orden de negocio para la reforma de inmigración tiene que ser una forma de controlar nuestras fronteras, si esto no se logra la reforma es imposible. En segundo lugar tiene que haber un sistema en lugar de atraer a los inmigrantes que quieren emigrar a los Estados Unidos para hacerlo legalmente. Si los inmigrantes no pueden obtener un permiso de entrada, con toda probabilidad que se acaba de entrar en el país ilegalmente. Tiene que haber un sistema en el lugar de los inmigrantes que quieren jugar con las reglas que puedan entrar y salir cuando sea necesario. En tercer lugar tiene que haber una razón para que los inmigrantes illeagal ya están aquí para volver al país de origen y que luego puedan regresar legalmente. No se puede esperar que los inmigrantes a aceptar las sanciones que les amenazan grandes o mediante la prohibición de por vida de los Estados Unidos, que sólo volverá subterráneo en este país. En cuarto lugar, tiene que ser un sistema viable E Compruebe que todos los empleadores tienen un incentivo para utilizar el sistema y de esa manera el gobierno puede ir después de la explotación de los empleadores de la ley y la contratación de inmigrantes ilegales. Sólo podemos esperar que la administración de Obama y los republicanos pueden reunirse para resolver estas cuestiones para el mejoramiento del país.

| Latino voters counting on Obama in 2010 for Immigration Reform. |

A recent poll conducted by Impremedia concludes that even if health care reform passes the Latino voters will demand action from Presidant Obama and the Democrats on fixing the troubled current immigration system. One thousand registered Latino voters were polled and 84 percent consider comprehensive immigration reform (CIR) catagorized as important to extremely important to be passed ahead of the 2010 midterm elections. In comparison 86 percent of Latinos polled believe health care reform is necessary. While President Obama was campaigning for his bid for the White House, he pledged to get CIR passed in the first year of his administration. This had a very positive effect on election day for Mr. Obama. Bendixen & Associates ran a poll in May of this year and found that 72 percent of Latinos believed Mr. Obama would keep keep his word. 83 percent still believe he will eventual make good on his word on the immigration issue. Also, the Impremedia data points out that 74 percent of Latinos give a stamp of approval for President Obamas performance so far but they need to see action by next year. If they don't, 54 percent say they will hold him at least partially responsible and 34 percent would turn to the GOP in 2012. Seeing how crucial Latinos were in helping President Obama to win the White House last November, it surely should not be forgotten by the Democrats on this important issue. Some intellectuals and politicians have exploited the health care debate and failing economy as reasons to put CIR on the back burner. This could be a grave mistake as seen by the numbers in the polls from the Latino community.

With a large number of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Congress, a lot of factions, including the NAACP, are striving to help comprehensive immigration reform succeed. There now is a real sense of a new prospect to overhaul immigration laws influencing millions of legal and illegal immigrants. The Latino population has endured for far too long and bore the brunt of the anti immigration opinion. This is not just a Latino issue but it is an Asian, Haitian and every other nationality immigration issue. The accumulation of voices crying out for comprehensive immigration reform is growing, Caribbean-Americans, evangelical churches, labor unions, law enforcement, Catholic, Jewish, Lutheran, Christian and many other churches and faiths besides the NAACP. Businesses, too, are becoming more boisterous for CIR. With the increased zeal backing reform the increased support is starting to be noticed and the activism is on the increase.
