| Miss Mexico wins Miss Universe in Las Vegas how Ironic. |

Las Vegas, Nevada was the venue for the 2010 Miss Universe competition and none other then Ms. Jimena Navarette was crowned Miss Universe. It sounds like some script written for a Hollywood movie! Ms. Navarette wasted no time letting everyone know about her country and her people. She now has bragging rights over other 82 competitors from around the world at the competition in Las Vegas. Ms. Navarette proclaimed Victory after the event and wished her country well. Native reporters swarmed her after the event and she even responded to a couple of questions regarding Arizona's new immigration law. She commented that every country can make up laws as they see fit but she knows that the Mexican and Latino communties are very hard working people and all they want is a better life for their families. The winners of the Miss Universe pageant have been known for making news and Ms. Navarrete looks like she will be no different. Congratulations!

Miss México gana Miss Universo en Las Vegas ¡Qué irónico.
Las Vegas, Nevada fue el escenario para el concurso 2010 de Miss Universo y no otro entonces la Sra. Jimena Navarrete fue coronada como Miss Universo. Suena como un guión escrito para una película de Hollywood! La Sra. Amy no perdió el tiempo dejando que todos sepan sobre su país y su gente. Ahora tiene derecho a presumir frente a otros competidores 82 de todo el mundo en la competencia en Las Vegas. La Sra. Navarrete proclamó la victoria después del evento y deseó que su país también. los periodistas nativos de su pululaban después del evento y que incluso respondió a un par de preguntas sobre nueva ley de inmigración de Arizona. Comentó que cada país puede hacer sus leyes como mejor les parezca, pero ella sabe que los mexicanos y latinos comunidades son muy difíciles de los trabajadores y lo único que quieren es una vida mejor para sus familias. Los ganadores del certamen de Miss Universo se han conocido por hacer las noticias y la Sra. Navarrete parece que no será diferente. ¡Felicitación!

| Santa Fe setting a great example on Immigration. |

With all the negative rheotric from such states like Arizona, Uath and Florida on the immigration issues lately, it is refreshing to see a city in our home state setting a great example for the rest of the country and the world. Santa Fe Mayor David Coss earlier this month set the record straight with CNN and the BBC if Santa Fe is a sanctuary city for undocumented immigrants. Mr. Coss could not have been more elegantly by stating that his city concentrates on crimes and how to prevent them and not the color of someone's skin. Santa Fe even has a city ordinance declaring no city personell will be used to look at someone's immigration status. Mr. Coss reiterated that the immigrants in his community are in general some of the most law abiding people. Mr. Coss went on to say that his city treats everyone as human beings and does not racially profile people. He feels this has helped keep crime down in his city because people feel safe to report any crime to police. Santa Fe protects everyone's rights regardless of where they may have come from orginally. To imply that every immigrant whether legal or undocumented is a drug dealer or gang-banger is just small minded and racist thinking. It is hard to believe in this day and age that anyone can have these values.

Santa Fe dando un gran ejemplo sobre Inmigración. Con todos los rheotric negativos de tales estados como Arizona, Florida y Uath sobre las cuestiones de inmigración últimamente, es refrescante ver a una ciudad en nuestro estado dando un gran ejemplo para el resto del país y del mundo. Santa Fe el Alcalde David Coss a principios de este mes de aclarar las cosas con la CNN y la BBC si Santa Fe es una ciudad santuario para inmigrantes indocumentados. El Sr. Coss no podría haber sido más elegante al afirmar que su ciudad se concentra en los delitos y la manera de prevenir y no el color de la piel de alguien. Santa Fe tiene incluso una ordenanza municipal que declara la no personal de la ciudad se usa para examinar el estado migratorio de alguien. | As Arizona's new immigration law approaches problems become more apparent. |

Mayor Hugh Hallman of Tempe and Mayor Scott Smith of Mesa bring to light new problems with Arizona's new immigration law that would put a serious drain on their cities' arrest procedures. Instead of the federal government bearing the cost of processing undocumented immigrants now Arizona is taking on this cost.
1. Anyone stopped by police who does not have a valid drivers licence or other documentation of citizenship would need to be detained.
2. Also, since a person has to be arrested they would have to be read their Miranda rights. This right gives the accused the right to remain silent and the right to a defense attorney.
3. Presently, law enforcement can look into someone's immigration status. Now if that person is found to be undocumented, federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers take the case with no local criminal charges being filed.
4. When this new law goes into effect on July 29, this civil process will not be there. The accused must now be charged with a crime under the new Arizona law.
5. This will greatly cause the criminal department to be hampered by the increase work load because of all the extra work to gather evidence. For a misdemenor? Really? That is just stupidity.
6. The new immigration law makes it illegal for law enforcement to take suspects right to ICE, as accepted practice by the present laws.
7. What does this mean... well thousands of potential suspects who may have been given a citation and let go will now have to be detained and booked into jail. Bookings cost ~ $200 / detainee, and the city picks up a little over $70 / day for each inmate in jail. These numbers contradict numbers from Phoenix Law Enforcement saying it would save money in bookings by well over half a million / year by using ICE.
As this new law starts to get looked at more closely it becomes evident there was not a lot of thought going into it. It is much more difficult than we've been led to believe. Harris commented. You just can't throw people in a police car and drive them to ICE anymore. That's against the law now! Now they are Arizona problem and fiscal responsibilty. Enjoy the new taxes that are sure to come your way to support this new law citizens of Arizona!

| The American and Cuban strand relationship. |

An agreement was ironed out with the United States and Cuba to have immigration discusions in Washington D.C., this Friday said a United States official. The announcement went on to say that this was the first since a comparable conference in Havana earlier this year. The discussions are designed to oversee cohesion to a sixteen year-old compact where America issues 20,000 visas to Cubans a year. These discussions had recently been used to hold more pressing issues such as a release of an American contractor accused of spying by Cuba. It was thought after President Barack Obama became president it would help repair the United States and Cuban relations but that has not been the case and actually it has been on a decline for some months. United States officers have commented that there is not much hope for relations to get any better if Cuba doesn't change its policies. The Obama administration persists to encourage Fidel Castro and his brother, President Raul Castro, to give the island a democratic government. On the other hand Cuba demands that the United States stop its nearly five decades of trade embargo and stop interfering in Cuba's business.

With Washington struggling with the difficult question on undocumented immigrants it appears we can not see the trees through the forest on a great potential we can gain from legal immigrants. There is no doubt this resource is a huge source of drive for employment. Ever since the beginning of this country, skilled immigrants have come to our country to farm, build commerce, and make the United States a world power in science and technology. Immigrants have transformed this country into one of the greatest countries in the world. It is now not uncommon for students that are born in other countries to excell in the United State graduate programs over American students. But this resource of skilled people is beginning to change course in where they choose to live and work. This country dictates a huge amount of restrictions on the amount of legal immigrants. Then throw in the terrorist attacks of 9/11, which has made even more bureaucratic nightmare that discourage alot of immigrants from going to this country who may have migrated here. To make a bad situation worse is these countries are starting to seek out this talent. During higher unemployment times, the rhetoric is that it would be terrible to have even a legal immigrant, to get a job over a United States citizen. That is totally the incorrect answer about skilled foreigner workers. These people are employment builders, not employment wreckers. Typically, engineers abroad are believed to make around five new positions in companies per engineer.

| Refinements happening to the Survivors Act. |

Changes are coming to the Survivors Act or more formally know as Section 204(l) of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). This section allows a person to become a permanent resident through a deceased "qualifying relative” only if the immigrant lived in the United States when the relative passed away and stayed in the United States until such time a visa numbers became attainable. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has currently made public an outline policy for the populace to give their view on how this new law should be put into action by its officers. Comments about the outline were due by June 1 and the outline should be completed soon. Anyone who might be influenced by the new law should contact an experienced immigration attorney to go over their case.

Well it appears that Arizona's new immigration law has started momentum for immigration reform for Democrats in the Senate. Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and Senators Chuck Schumer and Robert Menendez have started to write a bill on immigration reform. They are not pulling any punches and ensure they want the border safeguarded before reform will happen. As outlined in their proposal, this criteria must happen prior to having their status adjusted for undocumented immigrants in America:
Add the amount of Border Patrol officers, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents, ICE worksite enforcement inspectors, ICE document fraud detection officers, personnel to conduct inspections for drugs, contraband, and illegal immigrants at America's ports of entry, prosecution of drug smugglers, human traffickers, and unauthorized border crossers, immigration court resources and also improved technology, infrastructure, and resources to assist the Border Patrol and ICE in their missions. They also want state of the art ground sensors placed all over the southern border to Mexico. After the proposal is passed they want the Social Security Administration to start distributing biometric social security cards. These cards would be tamper and fraud resistant.

The repercussions from Arizona passing its tough new immigration law has started to see real movement now in the form of an economic boycott. Representative Raul Grijalva, D-Ariz., has requested that the nation refrain from having conventions or conferences in Arizona until this law is ratified. Representative Raul Grijalva has announced that Governor Jan Brewer has made a giagantic error in alowing this bill to pass and that she has put this issue straight on the national scene. They have no idea of the resolve that this will put on the immigration reform issue. The request for an embargo on AZ. products, services and tourism was launched even though Phoenix Mayor Phil Gordon's asking not to blame everyone in AZ. for the state governments misguided attempted for immigration reform. The offices of tourism and development have real concerns and fears over the possible negative financial repercussions from Arizona's tough immigration bill. Many remember the huge and costly financial repercussion from the state's rescission of a paid holiday honoring Martin Luther King Jr. over Twenty years ago.

| Solution to our failing Social Security System. |

There is no real mystery why the Social Security system is on the verge of near collaspe. With the amount of people who are in the workforce compared to the number of people who have reached their golden years, the number of retirees keeps becomming smaller and smaller. In just the past four decades the amount of people in the workforce out numbered people on Social Security 5 to 1. Presently that amount has dropped to 3 to 1 and in the next couple of decades it is predict to go as low as 2 to 1. There are many reasons for this and probably the largest impact is that people just don't have as many children as they once did. Now, it is impossible for only two people in the workforce to pay in to Social Security benefits to support one retitees benefits. The real solution to this serious dilemma is to get more younger workers into the workforce. Since the vast majority on undocumented immigrants are younger men or women trying to make a better life for themselves or their families this is really a no brainer. This would increase the ratio of workers to retirees, thereby increasing monies coming into Social Security for benefits. Now the easiest and quickest way to make this happen and to fix our broken immigration system is with immigration reform and give all the undocumented immigrants a pathway to citizenship.

En tan sólo las últimas cuatro décadas la cantidad de personas en la fuerza de trabajo a la gente en números de Seguro Social 5 a 1. En la actualidad esa cifra ha bajado a 3 a 1 y en el próximo par de décadas se predicen para ir tan bajas como 2 a 1. Hay muchas razones para ello y, probablemente, el mayor impacto es que la gente simplemente no tener tantos hijos como lo hacían antes. Ahora bien, es imposible que sólo dos personas en la fuerza de trabajo para pagar a beneficios de Seguro Social para apoyar una retitees beneficios. La verdadera solución a este grave dilema es, para llegar a los trabajadores más jóvenes en la fuerza laboral. Dado que la gran mayoría de los inmigrantes indocumentados son los hombres más jóvenes o las mujeres que intentan hacer una vida mejor para sí mismos o sus familias esto es realmente un pan comido. The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) was gratified by President Obama's statement that he is still committed to comprehensive immigration reform. The President remains dedicated, and he will continue with overhauling the immigration system this year if he can gain essential Republican backing. After engaging with Senator Charles E. Schumer, Democrat of New York, and Senator Lindsey Graham Republican of South Carolina recently, President Obama announced that he will carry on to champion the fight for a proposal to fix our broken immigration system. Bernie Wolfsdorf, President of AILA was happy to hear that President Obama is totally committed to pass immigration reform. As our current United States immigration exists now, the immigration crisis greatly weakens our national stake by curbing economic development, thwarting family reuniting, and changing foreign policy mission. Pro-immigration advocates and AILA is keeping its fingers crossed that these talks are just the first to a revitalize bipartisan undertaking and priority on solving the United States broken immigration system. We all understand that there are other issues that our country's lawmakers are presently encountering such the healthcare issue. In 1990 the foreign-born population of America was eight and half percent of the gross population. The distribution of immigrants in America during the time frame preceeding 1850 to 1940 was larger. This has never dropped below thriteen percent which includes the time period of 1860 to 1930. Now the distribution post the 1940's has been under this number. In comparison to the data from other countries 1990 distribution data it breaks down as follows: Australias distribution was almost twenty-three percent; Canada came in at sixteen percent; Germany was just under seven and half percent; France was just under six and a half percent; Great Britain was in at just under four percent and last but not least Sweden was at just over five and half percent.

For the second straight year, the amount of undocumented immigrants residing in the United States has reduced, according to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). In January of 2007, there were almost 12 million undocumented immigrants in the United States. In 2008, that number was reduced to just over 11.5 million. Then by January 2009, this number had dropped by 7%, down to just below 11 million, by all accounts of DHS. California, which has the greatest number of undocumented immigrants, is now at just over 2.5 million. DHS said that the reduced numbers came about with the economic slump in America, the Associated Press disclosed. Some authorities also believe stronger border enforcement for the decline.

In a South Texas home raid Federal agents arrested a bar owner and one of his bartenders after the raid found numerous Honduran girls apparently were coerced into hooking. Beleal Garcia Gonzalez and Elizabeth Mendez Vasquez are both undocumented Mexican immigrants and have been arraigned with harboring undocumented immigrants, immigration authorities said. A detention hearing has been scheduled for later this week and it is unknown if they are represented by lawyers. Immigration agents made a raid on the house in Mission last week. They found numerous undocumented immigrants which included three Honduran minor girls who's ages were from 14 and 17 years old. Court proceedings show they allegedly were made to work for Twenty dollars a day in Garcia's establishment, where they allegedly were blackmailed and prostituted to payoff their trafficking bill. The minors will be kept as material witnesses.

A handful of rural neighborhoods around the U.S. have violated the free speech rights of all by legislating prejudicial anti-solicitation laws targeting day laborers. The most recent town taking up this practice is Oyster Bay in New York's Nassau County. Oyster Bay has two consequential roadside hiring locations where day laborers assemble in the morning hours, aspiring to find work. In September, under the pretense of public safety, the town council sanctioned an ordinance totally prohibiting public job solicitation. The ordinance declares:
Examples of actions which designate solicitation of work includes but are not limited to swinging arms, making hand gestures, calling out to a person in a vehicle, jumping up and down, wielding signs asking for work directed at people in vehicles, advancing toward vehicles, standing in traffic while in the direction of vehicles in the street or moving into the street for the reason of getting a job. This implies that just the simple act of moving one’s hand back and forth is culpable under this law, a “violation” steming in a $250 fine! The First Amendment ensures the free speech rights of every person, not only United States citizens. By unjustly going after day laborers, who are usually Hispanic immigrants, this law infringes on everyone's constitutional rights to free speech and equal practice under the law.

Believe it or Not!

| Officials conceal truth on how immigrants died in detention centers. |

A spokeperson for the federal agency told the N.Y. Times that he could not find out anything about a case of a man that died of head injuries recieved in a N.J. immigration jail in 2007. Although, the records paint a different picture, this spokesperson had notified his superiors to the reporter's questions, and they had a lengthy discussion about returning the man back to Africa to prevent this shameful act in the public eye. Inquirers in the agency's Office of Professional Responsibility in yet another incident that year, determined that neglect and intolerable pain had been the main factor in the suicide of a 22-year-old detainee in the Bergen County Jail in N.J. Also, the medical center was so badly operated that other detainees were in jeopardy. After inspection of the jail medical staff they found that they had altered a log to give the impression that the detainee, a Salvadoran named Nery Romero, had recieved Motrin. The false entry was quickly detected because the drug was shown to be given after Mr. Romero was deceased.Incredibly those facts were never reported to the public or the the family of Mr. Romero, who by the way accussed the prison of holding back painkiller medicine to Mr. Romero. In February 2007, another incident of an African man near death in a detention center, Michael Gilhooly, the spokeperson for the immigration agency, dismissed a N.Y. Times reporter's inquiries about the detainee, who had recieved a head fracture at Elizabeth Detention Center in N.J. Gilhooly expressed that he needed a complete name and the alien's registration number or he would not be able to check on the case. Again, records revealed that he had previously placed a report tipping off upper management at the federal agency about the reporter's inquieries and giving information about the hurt man. A Guinean tailor named Boubacar Bah, had been abandoned in an isolation hold with no treatment for over thirteen hours before an ambulance was summoned. As Mr. Bah laid in a coma after emergency brain surgery, ten agency manager talked over via phone and e-mail about how to circumvent the expense of his treatment and the increasing surveillance and/or news publicity, that was in a memo outlining the discussion. One solution they looked into was returning the near death man back to his homeland, but a supervising deportation officer, wrote in an email that he did not approve of removal of Mr. Bah because of his current state of having a catheter and he was unconscious. Ultimately, in the light of coughing up around Ten-thousand a month for nursing home care, officials decided on a "humanitarian release" to cousins in N.Y. who insisted they had no means to provide for his treatment. Just days before that release, Mr. Bah passed away. In the agency's records was a jail tape revealing Mr. Bah face down in the medical center, handcuffed with his hands behind his back, rigth before the medical staff took him to a disciplinary hold. The video shows Mr. Bah screaming over and over in his native language, "Help, they are killing me!"

With the recent failed attempt to detonate a bomb on Northwest Airlines Flight 253 on Christmas day last year. That individual was stopped by the quick thinking of the passengers and the crew of that flight. Because of this incident the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is working with airlines and law enforcement authorities, not to mention agencies with federal, state, local, and international agencies to close up gaps in security measures to ensure air travel remains strong. People going abroad domestically and internationally to the United States might see more screening measures. Americans should not cancel any travel plans. The TSA embolden everyone to keep a constant vigil and be aware of their surroundings and report any suspicious behavior or activity to law enforcement.

One of the most common reasons people have against illegal immigrants is that they feel they are all criminals because they broke the laws that dictates who may come into the United States. Therefore, these types of immigrants are "criminals" and we do not want those kind of people in "OUR" country! Such condemnation discombobulates what is legal with what is moral. The history of the United States is crammed with people who disobeyed unjust laws and were morally justified in doing so. Take for example the American Revolution, it was fought by brave patroits (men and women) who violated Englands laws of King George III. If they were caught the punishment would have been death by hanging for treason. So if commiting a crime makes you a criminal all our Founding Fathers are criminals, which makes us a nation of criminals. But, alas no one believes this misguided belief today. Take another example of Dred Scott a runaway slave. He violated the "Fugitive Slave Act" by running away from the Southern slave masters in the beginning to mid 1800's. Slaves that were found were given back to their masters and even people found helping or harboring slaves were prosecuted. Now many people that were tried had their case nullified by juries declaring the law was unjust. Juries usually rejected prosecuting anyone having dealings with the "Underground Railroad". I doubt the majority of Americans today would call a runaway slave a "criminal". And in the 1930's the SS St. Louis which carried hundreds of Jews to the U.S. were coercively refused under the pretense of immigration quotas, the majority of them were murdered in Hitler's concentration camps. But what if these immigrants violated U.S. law and entered our country illegally. Would we still call them "criminals"? I would hope not!

Pero, por desgracia nadie cree que esta creencia errónea de hoy. Tomemos otro ejemplo de Dred Scott un esclavo fugitivo. Se violó la "Ley de Esclavos Fugitivos" por huir de los amos esclavistas del Sur, en el inicio y mediados de 1800. Los esclavos que se encontraron fueron devueltos a sus dueños e incluso las personas encuentran ayuda o protección a los esclavos fueron procesados. Ahora muchas personas que habían tratado su caso anulado por los jurados que se declara la ley era injusta. Los jurados suelen rechazar enjuiciar a cualquier persona que tiene tratos con el "Underground Railroad". | Should only U.S. citizens born on American soil be President? |

Presently a citizen has to be born on U.S. soil to put his hat in the ring for the highest office in the country. This is not necessary for all government postions such as Austrian-born Arold Schwarzenegger, Govenor of California. Does this article in the Constitution still make sense in todays world? Whenever people talk about amending the Constitution, they rial up a bunch of emotions. The whole U. S. legal system is founded on this document that was approved by our founding fathers. The more we change it, the more we are basically saying that our founding fathers didn't get it exactly correct. The Constitution was adopted in 1787 and has hardly been changed ever since. The country is significantly bigger is size and the culture, racial and ethnic make up has completely changed. Also, how we move around the world in this fast paced enviroment has dramatically changed, the world has never been smaller. Military children born abroad can not run for President. Even a U.S. child born to U.S. citizens traveling abroad and then brought up to live in the U.S. for their entire life would not be able to run for the highest office. But an illegal border crosser giving birth to a child on U.S., that baby can become President. You can see the many different fasets to this issue and I am sure we will hear more of it in the future.

Además, ¿cómo nos movemos en todo el mundo en este entorno de ritmo rápido, ha cambiado drásticamente, el mundo nunca ha sido menor. Militar niños nacidos en el extranjero no puede postularse para presidente. Incluso un niño nacido en EE.UU. a ciudadanos de EE.UU. que viajan al extranjero y después trajeron a vivir en los EE.UU. durante toda su vida no podría postularse para el cargo más alto. Pero algún migrante dar a luz a un niño en EE.UU., que el bebé pueda ser Presidente. Usted puede ver el fasets diferentes a este tema y estoy seguro de que escucharemos más de él en el futuro.

| Salvation Army changes its Scrooge policy. |

Maybe you have seen the recent uproar about the Salvation Army making kids show their Social Security card to recieve a free toy. I must have forgotten the section in the Bible where Christ informs his disciple to inspect people's immigration status before giving them charity! It appears this organization has been made to see the light on charity and has reversed its "Scrooge-like" policy. Major Chris Flanagan, head of the Houston Salvation Army made a statement saying "It was never our intention to offend anyone with our registration requirement to provide a Social Security number, or to give the impression that we were discriminating against those individuals and families who do not have a Social Security number." It's obvious that the public opinion and indignation over the discriminating policy had a huge factor on their change of heart. It appears people are making a stand on fair treatment of immigrants in the U.S. and where you are CNN or The Salvation Army anti-immigration discrimination is not going to be tolerated. Maybe we are getting a little closer to "Peace on earth and goodwill towards man".

A lot of the Untied States immigration undocumented aliens dilemma comes from the governments inability to fix its broken immigration policy. This can result in immigrants waiting up to seventeen years or longer in some instances for immigrants wanting to become U.S. citizens. This was one of many findings by the Multicultural Coalition of Grand Island at the public library, that examined the U.S. immigration process. Many of the same findings kept ringing out that a lot of the United States illegal immigration issues are from bureaucratic delays that hinders people looking to gain legal status in the U.S. These delays can rip families apart as families toil to legally be connected with their love ones. Some immigrants choose to come into the U.S. illegally rather than wait many years to be reunited with their families. Another big problem is that immigrants fight to put food on their tables and with the cost of immigrating to the U.S. on the rise, many just can not afford to apply.

| Immigration attorney pleaded guilty to scam. |

The U.S. Attorney's office annouced that Sai Hyun Lee of Duluth filed false papers to help 17 undocumented aliens secure legal immigration stautus in federal court recently. Ms. Lee pleaded to a count of filing false documents with the U.S. department of labor. She could be sentenced up to ten years in prison and the maxium fine she could recieve is $250,000. Ms. Lee's sentencing is scheduled for Feburary 18, 2010.
Ms. Lee has agreed to turn over all the $100,000 that she had charged the 17 undocumented alien workers. Inspector general, Daniel Petrole for the DOL (Department of Labor) said that the evidence revealed that Ms. Lee was personally gaining income by deceiving the U.S. government. Allegedly, Ms. Lee charged an undocumented alien $25,000 to change their name on an approved labor certificate that was already given to an employer of another foreign worker. She then tried to apply for legal status for the undocumented alien using that certificate and doing the samething with 16 other undocumented aliens.

| What benefits are allowed to undocumented aliens and immigrants? |

As of today undocumented aliens are not eligible for public assistance programs, some undocumented aliens do commit fraud to obtain these benefits. On the other hand legal immigrants are eligible for some benefits, under certain circumstances, although there usually is a waiting period before they can recieve any benefits.
Also, undocumented aliens are not eligible for welfare, food stamps or other public programs, they can get some of these by using false identification papers.
Moreover, services like walk-in clinics usually do not ask for ID at all, so anyone can easily make-up a name and social security number to get treated. Hospitals, even if they suspect or know someone is an illegal alien will not turn them away, and will not report them. Everyone must be treated for serious medical conditions. Even if public services did report undocumented aliens, the USCIS only has so many resources and can only deport a small fraction of all deportable aliens, and they will always go after those who are commiting more serious crimes first.
Before, 1996 all legal immigrants were eligible for Medicaid, welfare and food stanps. In 1996 a law was passed to increase the waiting period much longer to obtain these services. An example of this is a family sponsor of a new immigrant has to submit an affidavit of support, showing proof of thier income and also to promise to support the immigrant up to 10 years. This also includes that the sponsor will pay back the government any monies payed out to any public agencies that the immigrant used. Over time even this law has been relaxed to include some benefits under certain circumstances, but many immigration advocates feel there is much work still to be done over this matter.

| Has the recent Halloween costume of an alien from outer space gone too far? |

I am sure everyone has seen this costume by now of an outer space creature in an orange prison jumpsuit with the phrase "illegal alien" written on it. Of course "illegal alien" is the governments terminology for all undocumented foreigners as aliens. Immigrant advocates have been asking for removal of the costume from its stores saying that it just contributes to an idea that undocumented aliens are unseedy. On the other side the anti-immigration supporters say it is a bunch of nothing and infringes on freedom of speech. I have not read of anyone complaining for the true illegal aliens (the outer space creature type) rights being infringed upon. I can only assume that if such a creature existed we would have two sides arguing about the pros and cons on this topic. I am not so sure if it isn't so much political correctness or lack of there of or just poor taste that has people up in arms over this costume. One thing is for sure, all this free publicity is good for sales and I am sure the retailers are thrilled about that.

Tiene el disfraz de Halloween reciente de un extranjero desde el espacio exterior ido demasiado lejos?
Estoy seguro de que todos han visto este traje por ahora de una criatura del espacio exterior en un traje naranja de prisión con la frase "extranjero ilegal" escrito en ella. Por supuesto "extranjero ilegal" es la terminología de los gobiernos de todos los extranjeros indocumentados como los extranjeros. Defensores de los inmigrantes han estado pidiendo la eliminación de la indumentaria de sus tiendas diciendo que sólo contribuye a la idea de que los extranjeros indocumentados son unseedy. En el otro lado de la lucha contra los partidarios de la inmigración dicen que es un montón de nada y vulnera la libertad de expresión. No he leído a nadie quejándose de los extranjeros ilegales verdadera (el tipo de criatura del espacio exterior) de los derechos está siendo infringido. Sólo puedo suponer que si existiera una criatura que tendría dos partes discutían sobre los pros y los contras sobre este tema. Yo no estoy tan seguro de si la corrección no es tanto la política o la falta de allí o gustos de personas pobres que se ha levantado en armas durante este traje. Una cosa es segura, toda esta publicidad gratuita que es bueno para las ventas y estoy seguro de que los minoristas están contentos por eso.

| Immigrant widows of U.S. Citizens get Rights |

Recently, the Senate passed a measure that would end what had been known as the “widow penalty”. The widow penalty was the practice by the U.S. government of stopping a non-U.S. citizens application for permanent residency when the American spouse died before the marriage was two years old. The conference report was past last week in the House of Representatives and President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law soon. Although the government’s definition of a marriage, has still not been made clear it allows foreigners that are married to Americans for less than two years to submit their own petition for residency. The immigrant must do this within two years of their spouse’s death, as long as they have not gotten married again and can prove the marriage was in good-faith. Also, the law is retroactive so any immigrant citizens whose spouse has passed away less then 2 years after they got married can still petition for residency no matter how long ago they got married. Immigration attorneys and other advocates that have been trying to get the so called "widow penalty" abolished we astatic over this passage.

Recientemente, el Senado aprobó una medida que pondría fin a lo que se ha conocido como la "pena de la viuda". La pena de la viuda era la práctica por el gobierno de los EE.UU. de interrumpir un no-ciudadanos solicitud de residencia permanente cuando el cónyuge estadounidense murió antes de que el matrimonio tenía dos años. | Death rates of illegal aliens entering into the U.S. are on the increase. |

The death rates of illegal immigrants who were attempting to cross into the U.S. southern border and die, appears to be on the rise and should surpass the previous number as in the same 12 month period even though fewer illegal's are being caught. Arizona has the highest number of deaths with over half the fatalities in the fiscal year followed by Texas, California and then New Mexico. Heat exposure is the leading cause of the fatalities while other causes include drownings, homicides by criminals that target these people and also rollovers of vehicles.
The Mexican ambassador to the U.S., Arturo Sarukhan announced in a release that his country has also tried to stop these needless deaths with a media campaign. In the media campaign it warns would be illegal immigrants of the dangers of trying to cross into the U.S. border.
The director of the Border Action Network, Ms. Allen, an immigrants rights group has said that Congress needs to fix the failing immigration policies in the U.S. to help reduce the fatalities of border crossings. If this is not fixed, immigrants will continue to brave the perils to free themselves of the poverty in Mexico to be reunited with family in the U.S.

Las tasas de mortalidad de los extranjeros ilegales que entran en los EE.UU. en aumento. Las tasas de mortalidad de los inmigrantes ilegales que intentaban cruzar la frontera sur de EE.UU. y mueren, parece estar en aumento y debe superar el número anterior como en el mismo período de 12 meses a pesar de que menos ilegales están siendo capturados. De Arizona tiene el mayor número de muertes, con más de la mitad de las muertes en el año fiscal seguida por Texas, California y Nuevo México. La exposición de calor es la principal causa de las muertes, mientras que otras causas incluyen ahogamientos, homicidios por los delincuentes que estas personas de destino y también vuelcos de vehículos.
El embajador de México en los EE.UU., Arturo Sarukhan anunció en un comunicado que su país también ha tratado de detener estas muertes innecesarias con una campaña de medios de comunicación. Allen, un grupo de derechos de los inmigrantes ha dicho que el Congreso debe fijar las políticas de inmigración en su defecto en los EE.UU. para ayudar a reducir las muertes de los pasos fronterizos. Si esto no es fijo, los inmigrantes continuarán desafían los peligros para liberarse de la pobreza en México para reunirse con la familia en los EE.UU.

| The silent crime... |

Usually people think of illegal immigrants as a crime against U.S. citizens but have you ever thought about an unspoken crime against women and children? It is a crime against humanity in which American citizens bring women and children into the United States either legally or illegally and abuse the women and children in the form of physical or emotional abuse, rape, sex trafficking etc. If these victims are brought in to the country illegally, the abuse usually starts immediately. If they are brought into the country legally the abuser will usually wait until the woman and or children are unlawfully in the country because of an expired visa. Once this happens the abusers have total control over their victims. All too often the victims hear from their abusers "Go ahead and report me and immigration will come and take your kids away from you" or "Try and leave, I will just call immigration on you". In the victims eyes the abusers have all the power and they "the victim" have none. The "U'' visa program was created in 2000 to help abused illegal immigrants. It was temporarily put into limbo until new rules could be adopted in 2007. Now the government is approving thousands of requests thankfully. New priorities under the Obama administration to the USCIS shows that there is an increase in approvals for "U" visas. A "U" visa must be certified by any one of the following authorities: police, prosecutors, judges etc. It must show that the applicant has helped in the prosecuting of the alleged attacker. In which case an illegal immigrant need not be in fear of deportation by the government. It would be nice to think that in the United States of America (the greatest country in the world) we would have the compassion to help anyone regardless of their immigration status. We can only hope and pray that federal, state and local governments also looks at this situation when a crime has been committed and not worry so much about someone's immigration status but worry more about who the REAL criminals are in this matter.

Por lo general la gente piensa de los inmigrantes ilegales como un delito contra los ciudadanos de EE.UU., pero han pensado alguna vez en un delito tácita contra la mujer y los niños? A los ojos de las víctimas de los abusadores tienen todo el poder y que "la víctima" no tienen ninguno. La "U''programa de visa fue creada en 2000 para ayudar a los abusos a inmigrantes ilegales. Se coloca temporalmente en el limbo hasta que las nuevas reglas podrían ser aprobadas en el 2007. Ahora el gobierno está aprobando miles de solicitudes gracias a Dios. Nuevas prioridades en la administración de Obama al USCIS indica que hay un aumento de la aprobación de "U" de visados. Una "U" de visado debe ser certificada por alguna de las siguientes autoridades: policía, fiscales, jueces etc Debe demostrar que la demandante ha contribuido a la persecución del presunto atacante. En cuyo caso, un inmigrante ilegal no tiene por qué tener miedo de la deportación por el gobierno. Sería bueno pensar que en los Estados Unidos de América (el país más grande del mundo) tendríamos la compasión para ayudar a cualquier persona sin importar su estatus migratorio. Sólo podemos esperar y rezar para que los gobiernos federal, estatal y local también se ve en esta situación cuando un delito se ha cometido y no preocuparse demasiado acerca del estatus inmigratorio de una persona pero se preocupan más acerca de quienes son los verdaderos criminales en este asunto.
