New Republic of South Sudan News

The Department of Homeland Security Designates New Republic of South Sudan for Temporary Protected Status (TPS)

October 13, 2011

Department of Homeland Security designated the Republic of South Sudan for TPS for 18 months (11/3/2011 through 5/2/2013)

Eligible South Sudan nations (and aliens having no nationality who last habitually resided in that region that is now South Sudan) who resided continuously in the United States since 10/7/2004 AND who have been continuously physically present in the United States since 11/3/2011. The 180 day registration period begins 10/13/2011 through 04/10/2012

Some Sudan nationals who currently have TPS due to being a national of Sudan may qualify for the new TPS as a national of the Republic of South Sudan.

If the beneficiary has TPS due to being a nation of Sudan and have a current EAD that expires on 11/2/2011, it will be automatically extended from 11/2/2011 through 5/2/2012.

This is the very basic information regarding TPS for the Republic of South Sudan. For detailed information you need to contact an immigration attorney to see how this TPS applies to your unique situation.
